Henry LAWSON

Henry Archibald Hertzberg Lawson was an Australian writer and bush port. Lawson is among the best-know Australian poets and fiction writers of the colonial period and is often called Australia's "greatest short story writer".

Thomas KENDALL

Thomas Henry Kendall, publishing as Henry Kendall, was an Australian author and bush poet, who was particularly known for his poems and tales set in a natural environment setting.

Born: 18 April 1839, Australia

Died: 1 August 1882, Sydney

Example of famous poems: 'Bill the Bullock Driver' and 'Bell-Birds'

The small village of Kendall on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales is named after him.

Place of burial: Waverley Cemetery, Bronte

 

Andrew Barton ' Banjo' PATERSON

Andrew Barton 'Banjo' Paterson, CBE was an Australian bush poet, journalist and author. He wrote many ballads and poems about Australian life, focusing particularly on the rural and outback areas, including the district Binalong, New South Wales, where he spent much of his childhood.

Died: 5 February 1941, Sydney

Examples of his famous poems: 'The Man From Snowy River', 'Clancy of the Overflow' and 'Waltzing Matilda'

Adam Lindsay GORDON

Adam Lindsay Gordon was an Australian poet, jockey, police officer and politician.

Born: 19 October 1833, Faial Island, Portugal

Died: 24 June 1870, Melbourne

Buried: Brighton Cemetery, Caulfield South

Poetry collections include: 'Sea Spray and Smoke Drift' and 'Bush Ballads and Galloping Rhymes'

In 1970 Gordon was honoured on a postage stamp bearing his portrait.
